Ace Charters III is now in Oswego taking its first northern nap over the winter. We finally pulled the trigger on a 2001 Tiara 3100 open hardtop with twin 330hp Cummins diesels! Unbelievably, the engines have less than 1200 hrs on them. The vessel itself, is in immaculate condition. Over the winter, we have and will accumulate all gear to get it outfitted for its maiden spring voyage.
Federally Documented Vessel
We have secured federal documentation for Ace Charters III from the USCG. Basically, all vessels 26 ft or longer, being used for hire, must be federally documented with the US Coast Guard. Our Tiara is 31ft long with a 12 ft beam, and weighs in at 18,000 lbs.
The Boat Set-up
Besides all the required personal flotation devices, lights, whistles, etc. there is also a ring buoy and lighted beacon as well. We have aquired brand new Cannon rod holders, Berts Downrigger swivel bases, Big Jon electric planer board reels and track systems. The helm comes with twin Raymarine E125 chartplotters, fishfinders, and radars flush mounted in the dash. A Garmin 8610 MFD with PS 30 Panoptics is there as well for live action sonar. The Scotty Seeker with two probes will take care of our down speed and temp. Also, onboard is a Raymarine auto pilot and VHF radio with AIS!
Offshore Capabilities
Ace Charters III has the weight and power to blow through rough water with ease providing a comfortable and dry ride. During the survey and test run, we cruised through two and three foot waves at over 30 mph. As mentioned, it was a dry and comfortable ride. The Cummins diesels are very efficient in terms of fuel economy. In most instances, diesels are three times more efficient in fuel economy over gas engines. Dockside diesel also avoids highway tax as it’s considered off road and is less expensive than gas! That being said, now it is more economically feasible to run offshore and experience all the benefits that are available there.
Work To Be Done
Starting in early April, weather permitting, Ace Charters III will get the neccessaary work done to get it ready to fish for trophy June Browns. Track systems, Planer reels, Rigger swivel bases, and rod holders get installed. Garmin 8610 plus PS 30 panoptics to be installed, too. Scotty Seeker added on and married to the 8610. New water pump impellers, trolling valves and back flushing the engines to be done. On board oil changing system install to be done, as well! The swim platform will get removed opening up the stern for better, unobstructed netting!!! Lots of work to be done. Keep in mind that Ace Charters II is still in existence and will be docked on the Hudson river for spring striper season. It will be ready and able to come back to Lake Ontario if the need should arise!!!!
